The Complete guide to Jade Rollers

The Complete guide to Jade Rollers

A jade roller is a stone rolling device made of the jade stone. This has been used traditionally in skincare for decades.

The physical practice of facial rolling has been around for thousands of years, with origins that go back to China- where Jade- a semi-precious stone- that is said to have energy-healing properties that helped keep the skin youthful and cool, was mined.

The trend of jade rolling originated during the 7th Century in Ancient China as a skincare ritual reserved just for the elite. Considered to be a precious gemstone with anti-ageing superpowers, this small magic wand is known as Yushi Gunlun in Chinese.

The roller can come in a range of crystal types, but the usual suspects are jade, rose quartz, tourmaline, and amethyst.

Green Jade- This repairs, tones and defines the skin. This increases your spirituality, enhances your intuition, balances your heart chakra and opens your third eye.

White Jade- This contours, refreshes and provides radiance. This strengthens your mind while promoting peace, harmony and luck. It opens a positive energy of your crown chakra.

Rose Quartz- This calms, soothes and is an antioxidant. This promotes universal love. It purifies and opens your heart, helping you increase your compassion toward others and yourself.

Black Obsidian- This protects and detoxifies the skin. This ultimate protection stone helps to clean and protect your aura from negative energy, mental stress and tension. This stone is associated with your root chakra.

Tourmaline- This is transformative and energizing. This has always been considered a crystal of psychic protection. It is believed to help a person reconnect their spirit with the grounding energy of the earth.

Amethyst- This is calming and clarifying. This brings clarity to a clouded vision and relieves the stress and strain associated with living a life that is misaligned to our soul purpose.

The ‘Stone of Heaven’ (Jade in Chinese medicine) delivers numerous functional benefits for the skin internally and externally. These include the following:

1- Blood Circulation: The constant rolling over the face helps to increase blood circulation, which delivers vital nutrients and oxygen for the skin- this helps to maintain the function of the skin.

2- Lymphatic Drainage: The repetitive rolling over the face with slight pressure helps to stimulate lymphatic drainage, which helps to flush toxins and swelling to the lymph nodes- this keeps the skin healthy.

3- De-puffing: The continual gliding of the cool stone under and around the eyes help to de-puff puffy eyes, brighten dark circles and reduce swelling. This keeps the under eyes revitalized and minimizes eye bags.

4- Brightening: The perpetual practice of facial rolling helps to brighten the skin complexion, due to increased blood flow. The skin appears more radiant and increases in clarity. This keeps the skin refreshed and glowing.

5- Contouring: The specific rolling of the jade roller helps to enhance the natural contour and structure of the facial features and muscles. The face looks more structured and lifted. This keeps the skin youthful and toned.

6- Firmness: The regular rolling of the jade roller helps to increase the elasticity and firmness in the skin, due to increased blood circulation, oxygen and nutrients. This keeps the skin firm, toned and youthful.

7- Energy: The flowing glide of the cooling stone increases Chi – this is the revitalizing energy that has the power to rejuvenate and renew facial muscles for a radiant complexion. This is important for skin regeneration.

8- Absorption: The consistent rolling in conjunction with a facial serum helps to increase product absorption. Skincare products are better absorbed, feeding the skin its benefits, while increasing circulation. This keeps the skin glowy.

Regular use of a jade roller can have skin-deep benefits. As long as you disinfect your roller, you can be sure that it won’t transmit any bacteria. It is also important not to rub the stone too vigorously as it can cause skin irritation. You can consider keeping your jade roller in the fridge for a cooling effect. Using the jade roller straight from the fridge can also have skin tightening benefits. You can also use this with or without a serum or oil.

Here is a guide on how to use a jade roller effectively:

A ground rule- always start from the center, and gently work your way outwards and upwards towards the lymph nodes.

1- Cheeks & jaw- Use the large end of the jade roller, apply medium pressure from the center  and roll it towards your ear. Repeat in the same area 5 times, and on the opposite side.

2- Forehead- Starting in the middle of your forehead, use the large end to roll towards your ears. Repeat in the same motion 5 times then switch to the opposite side of your forehead.

3- Under eyes- Using the small end, apply medium pressure and roll from the inner eye towards the outer corner. Repeat 10 times and switch to the other eye.

4- Brows- Using the small end, apply medium pressure and roll from the beginning of the brow bone to the tail of the brow bone. Repeat 10 times and switch to the other brow.

5- Crows feet-  Use the small end, apply medium pressure and move the small end of the roller rapidly up and down on the corner of your eye. Repeat on the other side.

6- Neck- Use the large end, apply firm pressure and move the roller from the top of the neck, down to the bottom to the lymph nodes. Repeat 5 times and switch to the other side.

All in all, this ‘Stone of Heaven’ provides optimal benefits for the skin internally and externally. It enhances the facial complexion and provides skin deep benefits. This precious tool is a must in your fridge and skincare routine!
